MP MARIO SILVA STANDS UP FOR CLEANER AND GREENER TRAINS
TORONTO – Davenport MP Mario Silva has been advocating for cleaner, greener trains for the new Union – Pearson Rail Link
The Davenport MP wrote to the Ontario Minster of Transportation, Honourable Jim Bradley, to express his concerns over the use of diesel trains and to urge a shift towards the safer and more sustainable infrastructure offered by electric trains.
“My first and foremost priority is for the health and safety of my constituents and indeed all residents of Toronto. Simply put, every effort must be made to ameliorate any potential negative health factors surrounding the completion of this project and of course once service has begun. While more trains does indeed mean less cars, and less car emissions, we must consider carefully the costs of all alternatives, and never sacrifice short term ease for long term detriment.”
Over the past few months, community groups and concerned residents have been sharing their opinions on the new rail link that will principally impact the West Diamond Area of the Davenport Riding.
Residents understand the benefits offered by improved access. Lower congestion and wait times will mean easier movement through the city. This cannot, however, come at the expense of the environment nor can it create health concerns.
Mario Silva will continue to monitor the issue closely and advocate on behalf of his constituents with the Ontario Government to bring about the best, most sustainable and healthiest resolution to the outstanding concerns associated with the Union – Pearson rail link.
